The Lab Report (Dice Probablity)
For the proposal project, I conducted a dice probability experiment in which I rolled two six-sided dice 100 times and recorded each outcome and its sum. I organized the data into frequency tables and bar charts to compare experimental results with theoretical probability. The results showed that the sum of 7 occurred most frequently, confirming my original hypothesis and matching established probability models.
What I learned
Through this assignment, I learned how to collect data systematically, analyze results using visual tools, and support conclusions with mathematical theory and credible sources. This project helped me understand how engineers use data, probability, and clear technical writing to justify claims and explain results logically. I also improved my ability to write in a formal, structured engineering style and explain complex ideas clearly. Overall, this assignment strengthened my confidence in both my analytical and technical writing skills.
Project Overview (Team 6-7)
For the team proposal project, I worked with Fahad and Yahir to design and justify a new student center at The City College of New York. The project focused on addressing the limitations of the current student center and improving campus life through updated academic, recreational, and social spaces. Our proposal included a four-floor building plan, detailed cost estimates, sustainability features, and a realistic construction timeline. We also used research and student survey data to show how increased campus involvement can improve academic performance, retention, and overall student well-being. The goal of the project was to present a realistic, data-driven solution that could help CCNY compete with other major institutions.
What I learned
Through this project, I learned how to work effectively in a team by depending on others’ strengths while also contributing my own ideas more confidently. Collaborating with others helped me improve my communication skills and understand the importance of shared responsibility in large engineering-style projects. I also learned how to support arguments using credible research, financial analysis, and long-term planning rather than personal opinion. This assignment showed me how engineering proposals must balance technical detail, feasibility, and real-world impact. Overall, it strengthened both my teamwork skills and my confidence in professional technical writing.
Technical Description Overview
For the Technical Description assignment, I focused on myoelectric prosthetic limbs, an innovation closely related to my intended career path in biomedical engineering. The purpose of this technical description was to explain what myoelectric prostheses are, how they function, and why they are an important advancement in modern medical engineering. In this assignment, I defined key technical terms, provided a brief history of prosthetics, and described the engineering process behind myoelectric limbs, including muscle signal detection, signal processing, and motor control. I also explained the main components of these devices, such as EMG sensors, microprocessors, batteries, and actuators, to give the reader a complete understanding of how the system operates.
In addition, the technical description analyzed the benefits and limitations of myoelectric prosthetics. I discussed how these devices offer more natural movement, improved grip control, and greater independence for amputees, while also addressing real-world challenges such as high cost, battery dependence, sensor interference, and limited sensory feedback. The assignment concluded by exploring future innovations, including AI-assisted signal filtering, 3D-printed components, and neural interfaces, which have the potential to improve performance and accessibility.
What I Learned from This Assignment
Through this technical description, I learned how to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly and effectively to a non-expert audience. I improved my ability to organize technical information, use appropriate terminology, and structure explanations in a logical sequence. This assignment also showed me the importance of clarity and precision in engineering writing, reinforcing how strong technical communication is essential for success in biomedical engineering.
